French Doors – Repair And Replacement

Our team were approached by a previous customer who this time had some French doors in need of repair and replacement.

The property has four sets of arched French doors which lead out to the patio from several rooms in the house. They are a wonderful feature to the home but sadly they were in need of some restoration work.

Repair vs Replacement

One set of doors needing replacing completely. We used Accoya wood for its high quality and durability. The doors were manufactured at our workshop in Heathfield using the existing ironmongery where they also received two coats of primer ready for the decorator to complete the paint works once they were fitted at the property.

At the JJ Group, we pride ourselves in our repair work and always strive to repair doors, windows and frames if suitable. For this set of doors, we were able to repair the rotten timber in the cills and frame. On another set of doors at the property, we assessed the rot damage. Knowing the customer has a painting and decorating cycle of approx. 4 years, we believed repairing the rot would not last until the next scheduled decoration. This would result in further maintenance projects so suggested to the customer to replace rather than repair. This would reduce the number of visits from contractors and save money in the long run.

Further Refurbishment

Whilst we were working on this contract, the customer also asked us to take a look at the windows of the master bedroom. These too were not suitable for repair, so we manufactured new sashes to replace the old. We were able to re-use the existing beading. During the replacement, we sanded and prepped the whole casement ready for the decorator to paint. This then led to us essentially combing the entire property, giving it a full service. This included repairing fascias through to adjusting toilet doors and kitchen cupboards to ensure they shut properly. All these small niggling things might seem insignificant, but they can become a burden to day to day life. By giving this property the full attention and maintenance it needs ensures the family have peace of mind that it is in optimum condition, not only for the winter ahead but for future proofing too.

Smooth Project Running

We work with and liaise with different contractors or manage them completely ourselves. This makes the property refurbishment process much smoother for the customer.
